Resource Rights Africa (RRA) is the Lead Organization of KAMIG which was formed to work towards the peaceful transformation of conflicts related to mining in Karamoja sub-region an area endowed with over 50 different minerals including gold, silver, copper, and iron. The rich mineral potential holds the promise of economic development and has
attracted both foreign and domestic companies acquiring exploration and/or mining rights in the region. A total of 17,083.34sq.km i.e. 61.67% of total land area is licenced for mineral exploration and extraction activities.
Goal To develop partnerships to contribute to the transformation of conflicts related to the
mining sector in Karamoja.
Objectives
- To bridge the information gap between mining agencies, local governments and the communities on conflict transformation arising from land use management and mining.
- To profile or document conflicts arising from mining activities in the Karamoja sub-region.
- To build the capacities of local governments and communities to transform conflicts
arising from land use management and mining activities. - To foster transparency and accountability on benefits accruing from mining for peaceful
development in Karamoja sub-region. - To lobby and create partnerships for development and advocacy in Karamoja’s mining
sector. - To create platforms for stakeholder engagement and advocacy.
